Object Tracking

CGI

Earlier this year, we embarked on a significant and ambitious project in collaboration with our good friends at Mocha.tv. The original task was to digitally attach the weapons load onto footage of the Eurofighter, but after some in-depth conversation and careful exploration of the options, we decided it would be much easier and more efficient to replace the entire aircraft in the footage. Adding to the complexity, several of the aircraft featured different liveries, which would also have required extensive painting out and retouching. This is where Keentools.io stepped in to save the day. Their incredible tool enables you to precisely track the supplied 3D geometry over the live-action footage. This solution was a game-changer on two fronts: firstly, it gave us an excellent object track of the plane’s complex motion, and secondly, it captured all the subtle micro-adjustments the pilots made while speeding through the skies. Animating these nuances by hand would have been painstakingly time-consuming and would have quickly blown the budget out of the water. We developed a smooth and effective workflow moving assets back and forth from Nuke to Cinema 4D and back again. Working with Keentools was an absolute joy from start to finish, and we will be integrating their tools into as many future projects as possible.
